The War on....Everyone

In an election year, more than any other, we are allowed to peek at the great divide in this country what separates the right from the left, and those of us that fall in between.
Watching the news, which I do less and less because of the idiocy, I hear the term 'war on'...someone. War on women. War on gays. War on Christmas...
Humans certainly have issues. And not only do we have them, we want everyone else to think just like we do- or else! So there's always some strange to and fro going on between extremes to pull the country apart and show us just how divided some of us really are.
Sometimes I watch in amazement, sometimes horror, but mostly, curiosity. How did we get to be so pig-headed about so many ideas? I suppose I am guilty as well. When I hear comments which are offensive to minorities, women, or gays, I go ballistic. Maybe I want my views of open-minded, live and let live, to be universal. I want people to stop hating each other for who they are, and to stop criticizing everything they disagree with.
Seriously people, get a life, okay?
There were some basic ideas I was taught as a kid; If you don't have something good to say, shut up. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. And how about be kind rewind. (Okay, maybe not the last one).
My parents weren't rocket scientists, nor brain surgeons. But they managed to make me an independent thinker who is tolerant of those around me. I mean, those who are not angry-racist-homophobic-extremists.
Is it that difficult to accept other individuals who have different ideas of happiness? Really? That hard to just get on with your own life without taking a baseball bat to individuals who do not adhere to your own brain wave, and try and beat them to think like you do?
Do we really want to be surrounded by beige bland surroundings with no diversity, no color? Should we all eat white bread and toss out other food from cultures not like 'ours', whatever 'ours' is?

I do blame the mainstream media for pumping up this hate, this war...but they are just the mouth piece, not the sheep who follow.

I suppose greater minds than mine have stood on the soap box and pleaded for tolerance and sanity. So my little shout into the black hole will do nothing.
Before you hate. Before you criticize and spout poison, just think. How would you like someone to treat you?

That's all I'm saying. If you think what you do is good for others, take a dose of your own.
There doesn't need to be a war on women, gays, blacks...there just needs to be tolerance. If it isn't hurting anyone, and it happens to be different from you, that doesn't make it wrong.

Be safe out there.
