I know it's been ages since I wrote a blog. Not that I haven't thought of many...many!
But who wants to write about being stung by another bad review, beaten down by meanie-weenies and all this while I enjoy a wonderful virus I picked up in Salt Lake City over the weekend. Ahhh, the gift that keeps giving.
So between sleeping, writing, and working, blogging is put aside.
But...
I wanted to update all of you on the progress of all things film-wise and perhaps book-wise as well.
The film. CAPITAL GAMES THE MOVIE;
Spending time with my editor Katiene, in Utah, yes, the world of Sundance, (oh, by the way, my latte meeting with Robert Redford went very well)(kidding) I do wonder how that area of the country has drawn so many movie makers and viewers to see films. Salt Lake City, Utah...where the air is thin, the surroundings are mountains capped with snow, and the towns are track-homes and strip malls. Very middle America. Didn't hate it or love it. Nothing beats California in my humble opinion (Having lived in a million places previously), so there's no comparison.
Yet there I was, back at Kat's mega-monster computer putting together a behind the scenes film and blooper footage for the DVD as a bonus. Did we have to? No. We didn't. But Kat and I are gluttons for punishment. Editing is hard flamin' work. Make no mistake. And when the footage is poorly shot, and the sound quality well...raw, we struggle. But the magic of my Emmy award winning editor, Kat always seems to pull a rabbit out of a hat.
She threw together a montage of BTS, (Behind the Scenes) yes, BTS...whatever, footage and clips, that 'should' interest viewers who purchase the video this Christmas. Finding flubs, giggles, and shots where people were clowning around, in 30 days worth of shooting was not easy. Luckily I recalled a few times where hilarity and pure silliness ensued, amid the agony and grumbles of hot, long, days of shooting.
But also included in the BTS footage is the explanation of what I hoped to communicate through the film. That, Love, is Love, is Love...
So there is that as well.
Now that we have been accepted into our first Wold premiere in Philly, the work has again just begun. Kat has become the new expert in trans-coding DVD to DCP...believe me, she's the geek, not me, to posters being sent, creating a twitter account just for the film. (That request came from TLA, and I don't say no to them!!) and all through this madness I continue to write, promote, edit, create and well...drop dead.
I have been very lucky to have huge allies in this battle...or should it be a battle, I'm not sure, but my film will also be shown in Ft Lauderdale at the LGBT Center as a fundraiser. Thanks to my cousin Rich and my cover photographer Dennis Dean, who pulled strings. Again I am thrilled to have my film be a part of the LGBT's effort to raise money for their cause. Interest in the film has been high since the mini LA premiere and of course there is always potential for good things out there in the future.
But for me...this film has and will always be a labor of love. A treat for my fans. Like my books it will be received with disdain or open arms. Since every writer, filmmaker, and artist knows, you can't please everyone. But seeing it is nearly June, I realize this all began May 2012. And a year later, I am still toiling away on all the details and work. Let me tell you, folks, it ain't easy!
So yes, there are a few of you who have noticed I am slightly MIA on Facebook, remiss in blogs, and well, trying to simply get too much done with a chest cold that is trying to squash me. (and I am running with it- screw it- gotta battle back with sweat)
The film. Capital Games. All consuming, madness of the first kind, and I thought the actual filming was the hard part.
The beat goes on, and on, and on...and the next time a person asks me, 'When's the next film going to be made?' I think I will simply just sigh and say, 'Can you make if for me?'
In the face of all the good, bad, and downright ugly, nothing seems to stop me. The ever-ready bunny of books. This too will be done, and soon my life may resume some normalcy, if writing a book a month is normal. So Book 13 in the Mark and Steve saga will be out in a couple of weeks- look for Making Love- coming soon.
Be safe out there- and thanks for missing me. I'm here. And no, I'm not going anywhere. (Sorry critics- you're stuck with Hauser for now)
