My interview with Mark Antonious Richfield

Today I am in a very special place on the planet. I’m in Paradise, California at Mark’s family estate. Mark and I are sitting outside by the pool, which is Olympic sized, by the way. From my cushioned seat on the breezy patio, I have a wonderful view of the recently remodeled stable and two horses grazing in an enclosed paddock. Beyond that amazing sight is the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. Everything I’ve ever heard about this place is true. It’s a palace, one with two pools, one inside, one out, tennis courts, a basketball court, thirteen rooms, all recently renovated by the previous owners, Ewan Gallagher and Jason Phillips, who have returned to England.

Mark, wearing summer white, looks as if he just stepped off of the page of his cologne advertisement. He’s wearing white slacks, a white short-sleeved sheer top, and bare feet. A gold chai charm is visible around his neck.

Me: Hi, Mark.

Mark: (smiling) Hullo, Ms Hauser,

Me: Where do I begin? This summer you and your friends have had a crazy few months. How are you?

Mark: (runs his hand over his thick brown hair) It’s been quite the trip. A lot of life changes.

Me: I’ll say. Divorcing Steve, marrying Stan…

Mark: (makes a soft sound)

Me: (leaning closer) Did I hit a sore topic?

Mark: Not for me, love, no.

Me: Do you realize there are sides being taken and lines being drawn?

Mark: I’ve been too busy to catch my breath. Between the new company and the upheaval, things have been hectic, but it is slowly calming down.

Me: (lost in his green eyes for a moment) How is Alex doing?

Mark: Better. He’s a busy boy, just finishing a film, ‘Lover Boy’, and attending another premiere for ‘Snapped’. I’m very proud of him.

Me: Okay. (I take a deep breath) How’s Stan?

Mark: (a big smile appears on the top model’s face) He’s spectacular.

Me: You look very happy.

Mark: I am. Happier than I have ever been in my life.

Me: How’s Steve handling all this change?

Mark: (gazes out at the horses) Steven is doing very well. He’s married to a lovely man. Tadzio Andresen. Tadzio has become an invaluable member of our family. That sweetheart is full of surprises.

Me: What do you say to the fans who refuse to accept Stan?

Mark: (pauses for thought) I think it’s their loss, my love. You see, Stan is my future, make no mistake. The love I feel for him is quite strong. I trust him as the father of our children, and the man who will help me not only succeed in Steven and my new corporation but, he has the heart of a lion. My new husband has so much love and intelligence I see him going far in his work as an actor, and whatever he chooses to do.

Me: (listening intently) You realize your love for Stan is angering some of your fans.

Mark: (sighing) Oh, my pet. I have not spent the last four plus decades pandering to others. I need to find my own way, love whom I choose. I do find it ironic those who accept two men as partners are rejecting the lover I have chosen.

Me: (lost on Mark’s beauty- yes, it’s hard to focus on his words) (I get it, Steve)

Mark: The heart wants what it wants. I’ve spent too much time unhappy, suicidal, starving…enough. I intend on working towards a bright future. If the fact that I am content is upsetting people, is it really my issue, or, my pet, is it theirs?

Me: You had me at hullo.

Mark: (laughs) I do adore you.

Me: You’d better I’m your biggest fan! Thanks for the time, Mark, I know how busy you are. (I look out at the horses grazing) I love this place. Can I live here too?

Mark: Naughty. (his smile is so sexy)

Me: Okay. To your all of fans, the last Action! summer release ‘Living in Paradise’ is due out the first weekend of August. So, make sure you all catch up!

Mark: Thank you, love, for having an open mind and heart, and showing the world, love is indeed, love.

Me: (standing and walking closer) Thanks.

Mark: (stands and opens his arms)

Me: (rushing to his embrace) God, you smell good.

Mark: Behave.

Me: Never.

The ACTION! Series & me

As I begin writing book 29 of a series, it gives me reason to pause. I mean, seriously??
When I first created Mark, Jack, Steve, and Sharon, they were 20 years younger! And so was I.

Before I published my first novel, I had written a trilogy about a love triangle between Jack, Mark & Sharon. It was destined to never be published, and to be honest, the files were on the old floppies and gone.

Then, my first book published with Linden Bay, was A Question of Sex, which is Mark & Sharon now. Barb and Lori thought Mark was too....something. Gay? They politely said, 'metro-sexual'. It took convincing back then to let them know where Mark was headed. They didn't think a gay romance would work.

Well...
Now, Mark and the Action! Boys have been around for at least 10 years. I hadn't thought back then when I wrote Acting Naughty that this would evolve the way it has, into a serial, soap opera....whatever it is.

I know there are a few fans that are rabid about this series, which really, has so many satellite books in it, it's more like a 40 book series, with prequels and spinoffs. I admire anyone who can keep up with them.

But, as most of the writers of series know, as authors, we fall for the characters. We do. My word, I know everything about these men; their looks, bodies, thoughts, cars, homes, the food they eat, their workout routines, their careers, their relationships...it's a truly bizarre alternate universe. It's my go-to series when I need a boost. No, seriously, these guys get me through some shitty times.

When I first created Mark Antonious, I knew, a man with his beauty, his wealth, had to be deeply flawed. And, boy is he. I wanted a man without conceit, one who had no idea the sexual impact he had on others, a man who simply would never find himself, no matter what he did. Mark can't make a sound decision. It makes him insane, but, it makes him real, at least to me.

His insecurity drives my fans crazy, but, it's who he is. Mark.
I would hope that over the decade of this series, the fans who can't get enough, dive head first into that fantasy, the world I have created. It's with pure love that I keep writing about them.

Maybe it will be a series without end. It sure feels that way to me. Between single titles, I'm back with them, and so are my fans. For these books to get anywhere near the top 20 in gay romance is astounding.

For the fans who have been with me on this amazing journey, know, as long as I am alive, I will keep Mark and the gang with me, and with you. Who knows? Maybe I'll be the first writer to complete a series with a hundred books.

An interview with Mark Antonious Richfield- Moving On

Welcome to my new blog post, an interview with Mark Antonious Richfield for the coming release of ‘Moving On’ this Valentine's Day.

Mark and I are on the backyard patio of Mark’s home in Bel Air, on a glorious Southern California afternoon in February. Mark is wearing black slacks and a black cashmere V-neck sweater and ankle boots. He’s seated across from me on a metal chair on his deck.

Me: Well! Thanks for allowing me an interview. I think you have some ‘man-splaining’ to do.

Mark: Do I?

Me: Yup. Do you know how pissed off people are at you?

Mark: Yes.

Me: I mean, hate-mail. Ouch.

Mark: I am well aware of the consequences of my actions.

Me: Why don’t you explain? Why did you have to kick Steve out? I don’t get it and neither do they.

Mark: (runs his hand over his long hair) He became violent.

Me: (I wait for more.) And?

Mark: I detest violence. He went to strike Stan.

Me: Uh, dude? You spent all weekend screwing your new modeling buddy. What did you think he would do?

Mark: You may tolerate being struck by a spouse, I do not. As far as I’m concerned that was the deciding factor.

Me: (feeling confused) Wait. You kicked Steve out because he was going to get violent with you and Stan?

Mark: Yes.

Me: Wow. That’s harsh. Couldn’t you just have talked about it?

Mark: No, love. I have a zero tolerance for it. My father used to beat me. No. That is where I draw the line.

Me: (still a little shell shocked) So, if Steve hadn’t done that, you would have…? What?

Mark: (appears uncomfortable with the discussion) Look, lovely, what’s done is done. If you want a list of reasons as to why I had to draw a line, then read the bloody book.

Me: Your fans hate you for what you did to Steve. They feel as if Steve put up with your BS for ten years.

Mark: Then, he’s well rid of me. Yes?

Me: Do you think your fans will eventually accept the changes in your life? Accept Stan?

Mark: Stan is delightful. He wants children, as do I. Steven has no desire to have them. If my fans dislike Stan, it’s because they haven’t given him a chance. Anyone who believes he is evil or a gold digger couldn’t be further from the truth.

Me: Uh, the kid thing. Yeah, that’s a biggie for a couple.

Mark: Indeed. They hated Alexander when he first showed up at my door, remember?

Me: Oh, God, they despised him. (laughs)

Mark: I received hate mail about Alexander. So? Hate mail may come again, until everyone understands why I did it.

Me: They love Steve.

Mark: (shifts in the chair, crosses and uncrosses his legs) I love him as well. I will always love my Steven.

Me: So, you’re trying to get your dad’s company back. Any chance Jack can swing that for you?

Mark: I hope so. It was left to me by my parents. We shall see.

Me: Mark, is there anything you want to tell the fans who have had a terrible time dealing with your breakup?

Mark: (sighs heavily) Oh, my pet…things change. You know what annoys me?

Me: Um. Getting older?

Mark: Cheeky monkey. Yes, but that’s not what I was going to say. My fans have a short memory. They don’t recall some of the trying times both Steven and I have endured. In the long run, I do feel this is best for us both.

Me: (staring at him) But, that’s just it. For better or worse. I mean, you took a vow, Mark.

Mark: Steven didn’t think much of weddings and vows when he crashed Sharon and my wedding.

Me: Ohh, snap! Huh.

Mark: Look, my lovely, the point is, life goes on. We change, we grow, and we try our best. You realize Tadzio is mad for Steven. Do you really think he’s going to go without?

Me: No. Tadzio is going to make sure Steve’s satisfied, but, Tadzio is not you.

Mark: So, the reason for this interview was to chastise me?

Me: Can I spank you? (blushes)

Mark: No.

Me: Drat. Okay, Mark Antonious, I guess we’ll all have to deal with the fallout you left us. But, expect loads of hate mail no matter what you do.

Mark: I am prepared. I’ve gotten hate mail since I first met you. Perhaps they think I’m too pretty. (he makes a silly face at me)

Me: Yeah, that’s it. (laughs) Oh, Mark, Mark, Mark…

Mark: Yes?

Me: Can I kiss you?

Mark: (points to his cheek as he smiles)

Me: Mmm.

Mark: (chuckling) Behave, Ms Hauser.

Me: Nah. Behaving badly is so much more fun.

Mark: Indeed.

Me: Thanks, as usual, for taking the time out from your hectic life to chat with me. Good luck on the next book in the series.

Mark: I should be saying that to you.

Me: Oh! Ha.

Mark: I just want to say a big thank you to the fans who have shown their concern for myself and Steven. I hope they understand that everything works out for the best, in the end.

Me: Change. They hate it. But, hopefully they’ll learn to love you all over again.

Mark: Let us hope so.
